Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

This is my second letter to you from my campaign, and it represents something of an expose of someone running in the Democratic primary. But from me, you get the full story, not just what the politicians want you to know.

Maura Sullivan may not be the most corrupt candidate running for congress in 2018, but she is a contender for the title.

Maura Sullivan may be the paper maché candidate that documents the dry rot in the Washington, DC-based Democratic Party.

Now Sullivan is on a trip to her real home, Cook County, Illinois, to collect money from the city that has been dubbed America’s “capital of corruption,” Chicago, after having been previously linked to some of the most corrupt elements of Cook County politics.

And behind all of her lies, misrepresentations and outright falsifications there may be an even more sinister back story that my campaign is reporting but is not yet ready to confirm.

If you believe just what Sullivan says, she has been a political-operative-in-the making since she left military service. She edits her resume to grossly inflate her background, and eliminates facts that are inconvenient. She is a protégé of Deval Patrick and Barack Obama, two people who devastated the Democratic Party and were followed by Republicans in their wake.

Many decades ago Budd Schulberg wrote a fantastic book, “What Makes Sammy Run?” in which he catalogues the career of a selfish careerist, Sammy Glick. Maura Sullivan has become New Hampshire’s own Sammy Glick, willing to lie, distort, misrepresent and do virtually anything to advance her career at whatever cost to the truth.

Last year she was living in Cook County, Illinois in Evanston. That’s no surprise. That’s where she was born and grew up. But she tries to pretend she moved to New Hampshire after she left the military. That’s a lie.

How about another whopper? She hooked up with one of the most corrupt members in congress, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, and was considered for a suburban seat. But she was rejected because she would be a carpetbagger in DuPage County, Illinois! [Please see link # 1 below] So she moved to New Hampshire. Where she claims she is not a carpetbagger. Maura is a world class liar.

She says she left the Marine Corps in 2006 and immediately visited New Hampshire to campaign for a liberal Democrat. Don’t you think it is a little strange that someone just out of the military and heading to graduate school would claim to have been an activist instead of applying herself to her studies? She says she campaigned again in 2008 for Barack Obama in New Hampshire. Sullivan has been a Deval Patrick/Barack Obama a stooge her entire non-military life and they have rewarded her with political patronage appointments. That the truth about her. Nothing more.

It’s no secret that I believe that the “news” in New Hampshire is largely fake news propagated by Democratic Party operatives masquerading as conservatives or “Journalists.” Sullivan told gullible reporter Kevin Landrigan she was in a “position of leadership” in the VA. [see link #2 below] Sullivan was a junior political appointee at the VA, not a senior executive.

Sullivan told liberal stooge John DiStaso at WMUR [please see link #3 below] that “I was honored to be appointed by President Obama to help run the VA when it was in crisis…” Help run the VA? If anyone applying for a job inflated their resume that way they would not be considered because of grossly inflating their job history. But, OK, if you take her at her word, she managed to become an Obama stooge in Washington who later moved home to Evanston, Illinois. What qualifies her to claim she is a New Hampshire expert?

She also told DiStaso (in the same prepared statement) that [David Axelrod] [is trying] to rise above the polarization in our politics.” I have known David Axelrod for 38 years; Axelrod in the source of our polarization, not a solution. He promoted a manifestly unqualified phony for president and walked out to cash in before the roof fell in on Obama and voters rejected his successor. David Axelrod has sown more division and more dirty tricks in politics than anyone else that comes to mind. Axelrod is a Sullivan supporter. Axelrod is speaking at the home of Christie Hefner, who initially inherited her father’s sex empire (Playboy Enterprises) and then left over disagreements.

So who else is a Sullivan supporter in Chicago? Illinois’ loony liberal Senator Tammy Duckworth. Duckworth is a Senator Richard Durbin stooge. We respect Duckworth’s sacrifice for her country, but military sacrifice is not a blank check for incompetence and mendacity. Duckworth has been a disaster at every political job she has been given, and she is a disaster for the people of Illinois in Washington.

Ironically, if you want the truth about Sullivan you can’t get it from WMUR or the Union Leader. You have to go to a liberal Democratic Party-affiliated blog that despises Sullivan. [Please see link #4 below]. The people at New Hampshire Labor News [#4} know that Sullivan is a phony who is being promoted by out-of-state money interests that want to gradually take control of the congressional delegation in this state. In fact it was the Labor News that got me looking into the real reason Sullivan moved to New Hampshire last spring. We’re still reporting that aspect of her story.

When you can get more accurate and more honest reporting from a labor-oriented blog than you can from the lamestream (fake) news media in New Hampshire, you realize why Nancy Pelosi & Co. are trying to impose a fake candidate such as Sullivan on the people of the First District. New Hampshire Public Radio has surprisingly done some interesting reporting on Sullivan (Please see link #5 below).

At the start of this letter I stated Sullivan was corrupt and arrogant. Corruption comes in many forms. It can be cash in hand of the style involving Democratic

U. S.

Senator Robert Menendez. Or it can be the type of corruption represented by Axelrod and Obama, who deceived the American people and destroyed our national security. Arrogance? Someone who lies with a straight face as expertly as Sullivan has been preparing a long time for the lie of her life. If you believe her claims, she and Obama were virtually running the

U. S.

Government when she was a lowly patronage staffer at the VA and DOD. Once again, Sullivan, like Duckworth, is trying to leverage her military service which we respect, into a blank check to commit political fraud on the people of New Hampshire.

I’ll have more to say abut Maura Sullivan, who represents a hostile takeover of the New Hampshire Democratic Party by Washington, DC-based politicians such as Nancy Pelosi.

Given the fact that New Hampshire Republicans are notorious for flubbing congressional races to liberal Democrats, I am probably the only Republican candidate who can stop Sullivan in her tracks. Stopping her won’t be easy but I can do it.

Finally, forward this letter to your Democratic friends; they will be angry when they realize how their local party is being corrupted and taken over by national political operators using “fronts” such as Sullivan to try to control another congressional seat.

Dear New Hampshire voter:

Many Americans are probably confused by our policy towards Syria and President Trump’s decision to authorize missile strikes against Syria because of Syria’s use of chemical weapons after saying he was withdrawing our forces. I strongly support President Trump’s decision to attack and would like to explain why I believe the president’s decision was the correct one.

My opponents in the Republican primary are decent and honorable people but none of them have my extensive Middle East and foreign policy experience. When American lives are at stake, and our national defense policy is being formulated, there is no substitute for experience.

Four (4) generations of my family have fought in the Middle East over the past 100 years. My mother and father served in the Middle East. My grandfather entered Damascus with liberating forces exactly 100 years ago. I first went to the Middle East forty-seven (47) years ago.

Over the past few days there have been heated confrontations on Fox News about “what are our interests in Syria?” Tucker Carlson has sought to raise questions about why we are there. Friday night there was a shouting match on the Laura Ingraham program. Surprisingly, the “liberal” cable channels have largely supported the Syrian intervention.

We have at least three overriding policy interests in Syria and the Middle East:

1. We must stop the spread of chemical weapons in the Middle East and elsewhere. Over the past decade Russia has repeatedly used chemical weapons to commit and attempt assassinations in the United Kingdom. The Syrian regime has used chemical weapons against its population countless times. The poison gas attack in Damascus last week was only the latest example of chemical terrorism being unleashed on an unarmed civilian population. We cannot allow the use of chemical weapons to become “normalized.” The use of chemical weapons is banned under international law. In the wake of the horrible toll poison gas took on soldiers and civilians in World War I, chemical weapons were outlawed almost a century ago.

2. The Syrian civil war has created a refugee crisis in both Europe and the United States. Over five million Syrians have been displaced. It is easy to say “not our problem,” but the destabilization of Europe by millions of “immigrants” directly affects the United States. Efforts to flood the United States with Syrian refugees is an important Democratic Party policy. When millions of people become refugees, the impact is felt around the world. We cannot insulate ourselves from the refugee crisis. Chemical warfare exacerbates the refugee problem.

3. A few days ago, the dictators of Russia, Turkey and Iran met to carve up Syria. The only thing that stands in their way is the American zone east of the Euphrates River in Syria. There, a tiny force of special operations specialists with local support, has created a safe zone. Ironically, President Trump’s claim that he wanted to immediately end the U S presence may have encouraged the resumed use of chemical weapons by Syria/Russia.

I strongly opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It was a fool’s errand. But, going forward, a small U S presence in the Middle East is crucial to preserving the peace and allowing our friends in the region to develop stable institutions. If Syria is carved up, Jordan is next. If Jordan falls, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States will soon be gone. Iraq is already under malignant Iranian influence; I was in Iraq and I saw it developing. There will be Russian/Turkish/Iranian hegemony from the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf.

So, yes, the United States has a vital interest in peace and stability in the region.

LET ME BE CLEAR: I am NOT for nation building. President George W. Bush blundered into Iraq and then tried nation building to correct the mess he created. Obama compounded Bush’s errors by withdrawing precipitously and giving rise to ISIS. If president Trump unilaterally withdraws our small force from Syria, we will inevitably be forced to return, just as President Obama’s blunders forced us to return to Iraq. We cannot just pretend there are no bad guys in the world and wall ourselves off from reality.

We can help to stabilize the region with small forces while avoiding both massive troop commitments and nation building.

Obama thought he could chicken out and avoid a Syrian commitment. Obama ended up dumping his mess on President Trump. Obama’s appeasement of Russia and Iran was also a failure. Remember Hillary Clinton’s “reset button” with Russia? Obama really believed that if he bribed the mullahs in Iran with tens of billions of dollars they would stop fomenting terrorism in the region. The Iranian regime has become even more dangerous and voracious for regional domination. Russia, Iran, and Turkey, are expansionist powers. They pose a threat to regional peace and, ultimately, to our own national security.

It is important to emphasize that the strike on Syria Friday night was an allied operation. France, our first ally over 200 years ago, and the United Kingdom, joined us in striking at the Syrian dictatorship. The Grand Alliance has been restored. President Trump did not act alone. That is an important consideration.

Finally, if Syria falls, ultimately Israel will also be endangered. Israel cannot be safe in a region where Iran and Russia have toppled all of the adjacent nations and created a hegemony of hate. Israel has a strong military, but that nation cannot survive if Russia and Iran control all of the Middle East. While it may be difficult to see the link between 2,000 brave Americans stationed in Syria today or missile strikes, and the long-term survival of Israel, the link is there. I am committed to the survival of Israel, which is why I support a limited but strong U S presence in the Middle East. If we abandon a stabilizing role in the region, ultimately Israel cannot survive. It is foolhardy to think otherwise.

President Trump lacks experience in foreign policy but, so far, he has not made any big mistakes (leaving Syria would be a massive mistake). Trump needs congressman who have the experience to help Congress adopt sound and sensible foreign policies. I will support Trump when he is right and oppose him when he is wrong.

Before Viet-Nam, it used to be said the “politics stopped at the water’s edge,” so that Democrats and Republicans adopted a unified national stance on foreign policy. While I am a Republican, I also want to stress that I will do my darnedest to resume the policy of our politics stopping at the water’s edge, and encourage my Democratic colleagues to join in supporting a sound Middle East approach.

I ask for your support in the Republican primary. I am the only Republican who has the actual experience to make a difference in Washington.

Andy says Trump’s tax cut is not a “great Christmas present” as Trump claims but rather a “lump of coal” for New Hampshire citizens. Andy has been and continues to be a Trump supporter.

Dear President Trump:

I supported you and voted for you in 2016. You were clearly the better candidate. And, if you run for reelection I expect to support and vote for you again. I don’t see a credible opponent on the horizon. The fact that I am a supporter, however, does not mean that as a newly-elected U. S. Representative I would write you a blank check. I will support your policies when they are good for the people of New Hampshire, and call you out when you propose legislative solutions that will hurt the Granite State.

Unlike many of your opponents, I have known you for almost forty years, since I approved your lease to move into the building where I served on the board of directors, the Olympic Tower Condominium in New York. Over the decades our paths have crossed, so I have a great deal of familiarity with your earlier modus operandi. During the 2016 campaign you were commendable honest in admitting you built your real estate business on puffery and inflated claims.

But running the presidency is not like running a private corporation. Truth is the coin of the realm when you hold the trust of the American people.

Which brings me to your proposed “great Christmas present,” a proposed tax cut for 2018. In reality, your “Christmas present” is a big, fat lump of coal for all the people of New Hampshire.

My suggestion: tear up the obscene 550+-page tax law and direct Congress to come back with a simplified tax cut for the American people and for American businesses. I want a tax law short and simple enough so that a New Hampshire high school graduate can read it and have a fair understanding of what Congress is doing. Why is it that legislatures pass laws mandating “simple English” for consumer contracts, but then don’t apply the same principles to themselves?

The use of handwritten additions to the tax proposal in the Senate, and senators voting on a bill that was not even in final printed form, were and remain an obscenity. That is no way to legislate and, more importantly, that is no way for you to lead.

Many of the claims you have made in support of the tax law monstrosity are simply untrue. The law will not lead business executives to favor their employees with higher pay; only markets can do that. You didn't give away inflated salaries to your employees; why claim that executives will act contrary to the practices they have established over decades?

My poster girl for corporate greed is a lady who should be familiar to you because you encountered her handy work in 2016: Irene Rosenfeld. Rosenfeld is the chief executive of Mondelez International, formerly the National Biscuit Company or as we both grew up knowing it, ”Nabisco.” She makes cookies, but she keeps the plums for herself.

Rosenfeld was a competent chief executive and she improved the company’s profits. She is retiring soon, having paid herself almost a quarter of a billion dollars over the last decade. How much of her increased profits at Nabisco did she share with Nabisco employees? Probably none. May I remind you she fired her workers and moved cookie production to Mexico. You promised to boycott Oreos. Are you keeping your promise? Last I heard she still had her cookie factories in Mexico. So Rosenfeld got rich by firing her employees. How much of the “tax cut” will she or her successor share with her employees” None. Greed won out. Sound familiar?

So the claim that giving corporate leaders more money will empower them to pay their employees better is utter nonsense. I could go through all of the provisions of the tax cut proposal, such as the billion-dollar estate tax gift to your own company, but why bother? Be real. And be honest. You are a smart man, and you know that the claim that the tax cut will benefit the middle class is sheer bunkum. The tax it is a giveaway to millionaires and billionaires, with a lump of coal left behind for ordinary working families. Some Christmas present.

Usually, Democrats are dead wrong on public policy. But in criticizing the Ryan/Connell/Trump tax cut they have the better of the argument. The “tax cuts” may even hurt working families. They could overheat an economy that you have already, successfully, taken to full employment and strong growth. In other words, the tax cuts could end undermining your own success in improving the economy. As Episcopalians say, “be careful what you wish for…”

The politics of the tax cut are also toxic for your political future. Ironically, ordinary Americans know the tax cut proposal is a corporate scam, so why are you trying to deceive them?

If you sign the tax cut, you will very likely be guaranteeing a Democratic majority in the House in 2019, and an almost-guaranteed article of impeachment for your presidency.

“Swamp Republicans,” moreover, have been candid about their goals: to repay demands being made by “contributors and the donor class.” I did not see anyone saying they were under pressure to help ordinary American families rebuild heir finances.

The reason the tax cuts are utterly cynical, and suicidal for the Republican Party, is that from Speaker Ryan on down the bill’s supporters have told the truth about their real goal: they want to explode the deficit by giving away a trillion dollar windfall to corporate America, and then use the ensuing deficits to eviscerate Medicare and Social Security.

Don’t Mess with my Medicare!

And don’t mess with the Medicare and Social Security of New Hampshire citizens. New Hampshire has one of the oldest populations in the nation: congress is pointing a dagger at our senior citizens by planning to use the tax cut deficits as a basis to destroy Medicare and Social Security.

You ask too much of me and too much of any New Hampshire Republican when you ask me to betray our people so that Wall Street business executives can get richer, while ordinary senior citizens are impoverished.

What Ryan and his supporters in congress are proposing is the greatest political scam in American history: build a bigger deficit, and then try to force the middle class to subsidize their own financial ruin. It’s greedy and it’s crass and it will destroy all of the gains the GOP made during the Obama era.

So, by all means, pass a tax cut bill his year. I support you in doing so. Tell congress to pass a bill with no more than 25 pages, all printed in advance, with simple English language provisions, and with no secret “special sauce” for donors and corporations. Pass simple, straightforward tax cuts for individuals and, yes, even for corporations. I am not against tax cuts or tax reform for businesses, I strongly support them. But I equally strongly oppose the tax cut fraud that is being legislated by the Republican leadership today.

If you follow my advice, which is not protected by the attorney-client privilege, you will ensure that you enjoy a bigger majority in 2019. Who knows, I might win and be there to support you, the same way I have been getting along with you for almost forty years. Forty years ago when I approved your lease, who knew?

Merry Christmas and please make it a Happy New year for the American people, with an honest tax cut, not the monstrosity that is current being processed by Ryan/McConnell & Co.

Andy Martin reminisces on half a century fighting corruption in Chicago and Illinois politics

Andy says that the momentum created by reformers and corruption fighters of the 1950’s and 1960’s is all gone

Andy continues his efforts on behalf of public integrity, primarily in New Hampshire but also nationally and in Chicago/Illinois

(CHICAGO) (October 22, 2017) Andy Martin came from New England to play football at Illinois. He has stayed for over half a century helping fight corruption and broadening his base into a national and international campaign for public integrity. Sunday he celebrates fifty (50) years of fighting Chicago and Illinois state corruption.

“When I came to Illinois on a short visit I did not envision the state and city of Chicago would gobble up so much of my early life. Until I returned to my New England roots almost a decade ago I was actively involved in fighting the endless run of bad guys in city and state politics. On relocating my home, I promised to keep a presence in the city and state to keep an eye out for egregious abuses, and we continue to do so,” Andy says.

“The landscape has changed radically. When I went to the Illinois General Assembly in 1965 as an intern to work on a senior thesis there was an identifiable group of legislators who actively were against Daley Machine asphyxiation of the state. These great American became my heroes and my eventually colleagues, and motivated me to work for the public good, not just for private advancement.

“Sadly, today the ranks of corruption fighters and reformers in the legislature has dwindled to the point of disappearance. The citizens of Illinois are poorer because of that fact.

“Later in the summer of 1965 I went to the U. S. Senate as an intern to work on an esoteric project: an analysis of the conference committee. From there in 1966 I joined the reelection campaign of Senator Paul Douglas. Douglas was the greatest inspiration to me, and his efforts on my behalf changed the direction of my life.

“Finally, by 1967 I was ready (intemperate enough?) to stand up and stand out on my own and challenge the Daley Machine. When I joined the team fighting to expose corruption on the Illinois Supreme Court (the Klingbiel/Solfisburg bank stock scandal) that signaled the end of my prospects as a lawyer in private practice. And yet I kept moving ahead, working for legal reform and exposing the bad guys year after year and decade after decade. I have not won every battle; indeed, every battle was a loser from the start and had to be converted, occasionally, into a winner, such is the hydraulic power of corruption in Chicago.

“What I find most interesting is that you make no friends even successfully fighting corruption. The good people hide, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral-style, afraid of becoming exposed or associated with active as opposed to token opposition to the power structure, and the bad people just keep on going. There were a few genuine reformers in the legislature: Paul Simon, Abner Mikva, Anthony Scariano, Leland Rayson, Dan Pierce, Bob Mann come to mind initially. Who are the reformers today? In 1967, the “lakefront liberals” had yet to be born (Hyde Park was an outlier enclave); today the term is a hollow phrase in so far as opposition to Rahm Emanuel is concerned.

“Ironically, the media, which enjoy promoting the exposure of corruption, because it adds viewers and sells papers, have been sadly ambivalent against the people who are actually in the trenches fighting the crooks in public office. Media operate from the perspective that bad public officials are entrenched, and anyone who stands up to them is what Mike Royko called a ‘googoo.’ Now that the media are in decline, we don’t even get the kind of corruption investigations we got in the 70’s and 80’s. ‘Media money’ is gone.

“Even though I have lived in New Hampshire since 2010, I still get requests for assistance from Illinois. We are working on a couple of projects at present. Later today I will be leading a tour of the Obama ‘presidential library’ site, and addressing that matter on Monday.

“In 2009, I predicted the relentless escalating violence that plagues Chicago. I was a prophet without honor, but my prediction was unfortunately 100% correct. Violence at a level that was inconceivable in 2009 is routine today, and no end is in sight. Rahm Emanuel thinks he can laminate a glossy surface on the corrupt underlayment of Chicago, and tax his way to a prosperous city. Never in history has such a policy succeeded. So, there is a lot of opportunity for reformers and corruption fighters to take my place and that of the others who came before. Welcome to the fray. There is always new work to be done.”
