(Manchester, NH) (August 7, 2017New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin will hold a news conference today, Monday August 7, 2016 to announce he is running for the U. S. House of Representatives from New Hampshire’s first congressional district.

New Hampshire is on the road to recovery,” Andy says. “We have an outstanding governor who, working with the legislature, has brought common sense, practical government back to the state after decades of Democratic Party mismanagement.

“We have a Republican Party that is more united and functioning more openly and more smoothly than at any time in the recent past. Our state chairman is doing a superlative job of powering the party for future progress.

“But there is still much work to be done. New Hampshire’s congressional delegation is a shambles. We have two senators who are unfit for office, and two representatives who are an embarrassment to the state.

“So what do I bring to the nominating process?

“First, I will work to continue the unification process so that every potential Republican, conservative and independent feels welcome supporting NHGOP candidates.

“Second, I am the only candidate with actual Washington experience. In the past twenty years we have seen so-called ‘outsiders’ run for office claiming lack of experience as a qualification for office. The result has been decades of chaos.

“Experience counts. The key issue is not whether you ‘know how Washington works;’ it is essential to be familiar with the requirements and demands of any job, from the most humble to the most exalted, before you embark on seeking a new position. What is critical is whether you are going to Washington to be part of the ‘system,’ to make congress work for Rep. Nancy Pelosi, or whether you are going to make congress work for the American people. I have an extensive track record of public integrity and serving the public interest.

“In a few days I will announce an exciting new program that my campaign will support to help every New Hampshire resident, especially veterans, get a fair hearing from the federal government.

“Finally, the ‘elephant in the room’ in 2018 is going to be the Trump presidency. New Hampshire is an independent state. Candidates who tie themselves too closely to Trump and his staff risk alienating the voters we need to win. I will strongly support the president when he is right, and he is right most of the time. And I will not hesitate to counsel the president when he is wrong.

“Candidates who tie themselves too closely to Trump cannot win in New Hampshire. That's the reality. But Republicans who try to divorce themselves from Trump’s agenda, which I wholeheartedly support, also cannot win. Balance is called for, and balance is what I will provide.

“I must begin my campaign with an act of honesty and conscience. I was and continue to be a ‘Cold warrior” [see http://www.andymartin.com/cert.htm]. I was trained to fight the former Soviet Union, today Russia. Mr. President, the threat to our democracy from Russia is not ‘fake news.’ The threat is real and it is a dagger pointed at our democracy, both Democrats and Republicans. Please let the legal system and the congressional system do their jobs. As for yourself, please stay focused on growing the economy, cutting the tax burden and ensuring that our economy is the envy of the world.

“New Hampshire Republicans have a consistent track record of failure in nominating congressional candidates who can stand up to the attack dogs nominated by the Democrats. Democrats control all four seats in the congressional delegation because they fight, attack and usually manage to shred our own candidates. I have the experience to stand up to the Democrats and fight back.

“In addition, later today I will be appearing in Hillsborough Superior Court to support efforts by President Trump’s Advisory Commission Election Integrity to obtain limited information from New Hampshire’s voter records. I strongly support the right of every eligible American citizen to vote in the district where they actually reside. But I do not support voting by ineligible voters. In 2016 the Democrats in all probability elected a U. S. Senator from New Hampshire based on ineligible votes. The Democrats and the liberal media are wrong to criticize efforts to ensure ballot and voter integrity.”
